  2. Question 4: In this extract Mary Shelly might be trying to show the reader that something that you think may have failed can work if you try. Also that when the monster was created the atmosphere was eerie. A message from this extract could be don't deprive yourself from rest and health over something because it may not go to plan and you will be left in a bad state afterwards.

  3. 4- What might Shelly be trying to get across to the reader in this extract? (What might be the wider message or purpose)

In this extract Mary Shelly might be trying to tell us that this monster that Frankenstein has created is seen differently in his eyes. Frankenstein describes the monster as beautiful, he is proud of his creation. He infused life into an intimate body. However, Mary Shelly has also made the scene sound mysterious and frighting, which also might show that this monster might not be such a brilliant creation and can lead to something terrible happening later on in the extract.

  4. Question 2-How does Mary Shelley create an atmosphere suitable to the Gothic horror genre in this extract?
In this extract, Mary Shelley has created the atmosphere that is suitable to the gothic horror genre by firstly, the start of the first sentence which immediately tells the reader that this extract is based on the horror genre because she has put, "It was on a dreary night of November...", and that doesn't describe a normal atmosphere because "a dreary night of November" doesn't make you think of a nice happy place, but instead a dark and gloomy place. Shelley has also used some words and phrases to describe the creature that Frankenstein created which also don't make you think of it as an attracting creature but instead a horrid looking and slightly frightening one. Shelley has used, "I saw the dull yellow eye open" that makes the reader think straight away that this creature is not very good looking and makes you feel as though that this is a horror extract as you wouldn't use these words in any other type of reading genre style. Shelley has also developed her description of the atmosphere with words and phrases that refer to the horror genre, she has used, "It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out..." and just these words and phrases would make the reader imagine a dark and eerie atmosphere that would be suitable to the gothic horror genre.

  5. question1: how does Frankenstein feel about his creation
Frankenstein felt upset and disappointed with what he created, all the time and effort he put in, years, months, day and night and he believes it is a worthless piece of scrap. he spent all of his time selecting and putting the features together that he thought would look beautiful such as his pearly white teeth and his luxurious black hair. however, when it came to life, he thought it looked awful, its eyes were watering and were nearly the same colour of his dun white sockets and his skin scarcely covered his muscles and arteries. His dream had now become a horror story

  6. Question 1: How does Frankenstein feel about his creation?
Frankenstein was very disappointed with his creation because he put a lot of time and effort into it by collecting all of the materials for it and it didn’t turn out how he wanted it to. He spent lots of time looking for the perfect features such as lustrous black hair and pearly white teeth but when he had finished his creation he thought it looked terrible because his eyes were watery and they were almost the same colour as the dun white sockets they were set in. Also his lips were black and straight and his yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath. He was so upset that he couldn’t even look at his creation.

  7. question 1: How does Frankenstein feel about his creation?
Frankenstein was not very pleased with his creation of the monster, we sense this as before, he describes the unattractive features of his monster he says "I had selected his feature as beautiful. Beautiful!--Great God! the use of the exclamation shows that he didn't really think his creation was at all beautiful and also, he said great god which also helps to empathise the fact he didn't find the monster beautiful. Through out the extract he calls his creation a creature, this shows he didn't find his creation of the monster human like. Other reasons on why he didn't find his creation beautiful or human like is because it had yellow skin which scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath, it had a horrid contrast with his watery eyes and, dun white sockets. Another reason on why we know Frankenstein didn't like the monster, is because after he had created the monster he said "I had desired it with an ardour that that far exceeded moderation; but now that i have finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart". This shows that he had high hopes of this creature but all has now died away as what is left is fear and horror.

  8. Question 3-
Its shows that he has good and bad thoughts about the monster he has made and he doesn't know whether he likes it also he created it and it was meant to be something nice and he thought it would be like a really person but it turned out to be horrible.

  9. Question 3 - What effect is created through Shelley's use of positive and negative descriptive language?
The effect caused through Shelley's use of positive and negative descriptive language is showing us how the monster is shown through the creators eyes, it tells us how he was meant to create this monster and how the monster turns out in the end. When Shelley uses phrases like 'but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips' this shows us that Frankenstein (the creator) wanted his monster to have lots of beautiful 'luxuriances' but it didnt work so they 'formed a more horrid contrast' making his creation, that the worked so hard over, into a monster.

  10. Question 3 - What effect is created through Shelley's use of positive and negative descriptive language?

THe posistve and negative lanuage within the extract show the two sides of his split soul about the monster. The positive side thrilled, he finnally did it. He infused life into a lifeless form. Having spent nearly all day, everyday, for the last two years on trying to reach this aime.
The negative side of his soul is feeling like a deadly sinner. He infused life, something only god should have the power to do. He has commited heresy against god. This fact alone disgusts him. The creature is a symbol of his heresy, he therefore cannot stand it either.

  11. 3- What effect is created through Shelly’s use of positive and negative descriptive language?
Most of Shelly positives from this extract are about how Frankenstein felt about his creation and how he had finally finished his creation "How can I describe my emotions"
hes sort of saying hes a bit speechless and doesn't know what to do its so beautiful.
The negatives I put down were allot of things that weren't normal for example "Straight black lips" and "Watery eyes that seemed almost f the same colour as the dun white socks"

  12. Question 1 - How dose Frankenstein feel about his creation?
Frankenstein had spent years building what he thought was going to be the perfect creation so when he has finished and saw that what he has created was not as he had expected and that instead it was disgusting, horrible creature; he was horrified. He was horrified at the fact that what he had built from the perfect resources could of turned out so disgusting.

  13. Question1-
frankenstein had a moment of bliss analysing his creation with joy but as he developed a more real approach to what he had created his heart filled with disgust and regret and his creation was not to how he had anticipated it to be.
